McLaren CEO Zak Brown says his team wants World Championship triumph in the second half of F1 2024. If the second half of the season is as competitive as the first, McLaren F1 might win the title with its MCL38, the quickest and most adaptable vehicle on the grid.
The aim is the World Championship
Pablo Hidalgo contributed reporting. Lando Norris won his first Grand Prix in Miami, and Oscar Piastri won at the Hungaroring for McLaren.
Max Verstappen leads McLaren's Drivers' Championship by 78 points over Norris, but McLaren has a solid chance in the Constructors' Championship. McLaren is 42 points behind Red Bull and has two drivers performing to their capacity, unlike Milton Keynes-based team, as Sergio Perez has battled throughout the season.
Brown has indicated Perez's form will likely determine how tight the championship becomes, and the team CEO has declared McLaren's performance is so good that the title is now the target as a 10-race frenzy to the season finale begins this weekend at Zandvoort.
The Woking team's first Constructors' Championship title since 1998 seemed unlikely at the start of the season, but Brown suggested it's now achievable.

For definitely! That’s the aim, he added.
Brown voiced confidence in McLaren's speed, despite Verstappen's efforts to keep Red Bull in contention over the middle of the season.
“I think our team is strong and close. I enjoy where we are, he said. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than McLaren."
Mercedes and Red Bull have worried about McLaren's form. Mercedes' W15 has improved greatly since McLaren's early season, and it concluded the first half of the season with three victories from four races and a 1-2 in Belgium until George Russell's underweight vehicle was disqualified.
Brown said his squad admires and fears all their opponents as McLaren fights Mercedes to unseat Red Bull. We worry about them all. Mercedes has found their shape, he claimed.
I think they'll be hard work for us. Ferrari appears somewhat wrong, but just little. So they may return with one improvement. Max, it's special in a great team. So I worry about them all.”
